What is strength with out grace of movement? What is flexibility with out the strength to hold? Pitaiyo is an integrated system of three very important components of exercise: core stability, flow of movement and flexibility.
What is PITAIYO?
PITAIYO is the fusion of three disciplines. PITAIYO incorporates Pilates, the gracefulness, core stability, postural alignment and tone. PITAIYO incorporates tai chi, balanced movement and finesse of step. PITAIYO incorporates yoga, strength and flexibility. Together the three disciplines increase strength, alignment, flexibility and balance of our mind and body.
Who can benefit from PITAIYO?
PITAIYO is for all ages. There are four levels of PITAIYO. The strong get stronger, more flexible and graceful in mind and body. Mind body awareness increases when attempting the same practice either every other day or daily. PITAIYO practitioners become more aware of their bodies after each practice.
Where can PITAIYO be performed?
At home, the gym, in the office, the hotel room, or outside. You may use a typical yoga/pilates mat or an orbit mat. The orbit mat, or “orbit”, is circular. Although the “orbit” is recommended the choice is yours. A mat is more comfortable than the floor for the kneeling and supine positions. The key is to always let your comfort be your guide.
What clothing is appropriate for PITAIYO?
Loose fitting comfortable clothing. Shoes not required.
What other exercise is recommended with PITAIYO?
PITAIYO compliments any routine. In season, out of season training for elite athletes. A pro linebacker or dancer will also benefit from PITAIYO. PITAIYO is recommended in addition to cardiovascular exercise. PITAIYO is not considered a cardiovascular exercise yet the heart rate will increase to sub-maximal heart rate levels. It is the perfect compliment to any fitness routine. It can also be your only routine. PITAIYO is that beneficial.
What do I get from PITAIYO?
With practice PITAIYO becomes easier. The more you practice PITAIYO the better your body will feel. PITAIYO increases you mind/body awareness. PITAIYO is recommended a minimum of two days a week. PITAIYO can be preformed as much as three times a day. Regular practice lowers cholesterol, blood pressure and fat mass. PITAIYO is a great body toner. PITAIYO improves your balance, your muscle tone, your stress levels and focus.
Is PITAIYO performed alone or in a group setting?
In a park, sunrise or dark. PITAIYO can be done solo or with a group. The numbers are endless.
Describe a typical PITAIYO session or class.
An art form. PITAIYO from a bird’s eye view looks like a dance. The movements become rhythmic and patterned. Of course it will take time and practice to learn the pattern. Like the art of Tai Chi and certain forms of yoga, Ashtanga for example, the PITAIYO practice is the same to notice one’s daily position in mind and body. Some days you may feel strong, other days more flexibility. That is the beauty of a repeat PITAIYO performance. The familiarity breeds excellence. Although music is not necessary PITAIYO has music to guide you through your practice. The practice begins with Tai Chi morphs into yoga to Pilates and back to yoga. Positive thought cueing throughout class enables the practitioner to end practice feeling exuberated. |
